Meet the Clinic: Eugin Madrid

Welcome to our Let’s all Talk’s ‘Meet the Clinic’ segment, where we introduce you to the leading clinics in the field of reproductive health from across the world. Today I had the pleasure of talking to Dr. Alexandra Izquierdo, the Medical Director at Clinic Eugin Madrid. Clinic Eugin is a renowned fertility and assisted reproductive technology (ART) centre that offers high quality specialists in gynecology and reproductive medicine, along with cutting-edge technologies in the field of assisted reproduction. Read on to learn more about their clinic, and the wonderful work they do.

A Global Network

Eugin Clinic in Madrid is a part of the group of Eugin clinics around the world. “We are in 11 countries, with more than 70 centres, which gives us the opportunity to treat several couples with different problems and leads us to have a huge experience in treating patients with real proactive problems." explained Dr Alexandra. Yet despite this, they are proud of their personalised care on a one to one basis; “We have a multilingual personnel, so all staff can communicate with patients in their own language, which makes it much easier to get in touch and continue with the different protocols.” This is important, so that patients do not feel like a number, or series of patients. "We individualise treatments, to give the best options for every couple." Dr Alexandra told us.

Bridging the Distance

When it comes to treating people medically, telemedicine has come a long way. This technology has several advantages for both patients and healthcare providers; “We're very used to treating patients on the phone with video conferences to help them, send them prescriptions, and have direct contact with their doctors” explained Dr Alexandra, “Patients don't need to come every day to the clinic. We cope with that in the distance. That's how we work every day.” Indeed, the clinic has made travelling to them, and staying there for treatment, incredibly easy for people; “We can help patients in arranging the timings of the treatments and recommend hotels and accommodations that are close to our clinic” she said. “We coordinate with patients to make the process as easy as possible."

Affordable Treatment Options

In terms of fertility treatment, Spain is still more cost effective than the UK. The IVF treatment, including fertility preservation and conventional IVF, are somewhat cheaper “not because we lose quality” Dr Alexandra was quick to say, “but because the cost of living is cheaper here. So we can propose treatments at a lower price."

Donor Conception Packages: A Popular Choice

Donor conception is also a popular choice at Eugin. “We have more and more donation treatments done in our centres.” Dr Alexandra told us. “The packages are popular because they help patients feel more at ease about the outcome. Patients can concentrate on the cycle and be sure that they will have a certain number of embryo transfers or a successful result with that warranty."

Choosing the Right Clinic

At the end of the day, choosing the right clinic for you is a personal decision. The contact with the clinic should be something smooth and should encourage patients to continue and perform the cycle. It’s also very important to feel well supported throughout the process. As Dr Alexandra says; “We want patients to look back and feel that the journey has been worth it, even if it doesn't result in pregnancy. Having a good company for your journey is something very important."
